Preferred Substitutes

The Preferred Substitutes section allows users to set the preference level for an available substitute. This preference is one input into the substitute's ranked score. How much it actually affects notification order also depends on your district's ranking and priority notification settings, so it isn't a guarantee.

Choose one of the preferences from the dropdown menu to specify your preference for that substitute.

  • Highly Preferred: Gives this substitute the largest boost your preference can provide toward being notified sooner. It doesn't guarantee they'll be ranked first, since other ranking factors can still outweigh it.

  • Preferred: Gives this substitute a smaller boost than Highly Preferred toward being notified sooner. Other ranking factors can still outweigh it.

  • Blocked: Keeps this substitute from being automatically notified about or accepting openings from your leave requests. A manager can still see and manually assign them if needed; they'll show up flagged rather than removed from the list. If your district has turned off individual staff blocking, this preference has no effect at all, and you'll see a message saying so.
